Play Therapy

When children are facing challenges, they often don’t have the words to explain how they’re feeling, but through play and creative activities, they can show us their experiences, their struggles, and their hopes.

As a play therapist with over a decade of experience, I am passionate about the power of play and creativity to help children and young people express themselves, make sense of their world, and find a way forward.

Play therapy is based on the understanding that play is a child’s natural language; their way of exploring, learning, and connecting. Once a trusting therapeutic relationship is built, the child can use the safety of play to gently explore feelings, events, and worries, both those they are aware of and those they may not yet be able to put into words.

At the heart of my work is the relationship I build with each child: offering them a space where they are accepted, heard, and respected just as they are. Through this relationship, and with the creative tools that play provides, children can begin to work through whatever is troubling them, at a pace that feels right for them.

Play therapy can help children who are experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, changes in behaviour, peer and friendship issues, hyperactivity, trauma, self-harm, or physical symptoms like bed-wetting.

I offer individual and group sessions for children aged 3 and upwards. Most sessions with children take place within primary and secondary school settings, where they feel familiar and supported. Older children and young people can also be seen at my private practice in Llanelly Hill, depending on their needs and the nature of the difficulties they are experiencing.

Before starting, I meet with parents or carers to build a picture of the child’s needs and how best to support them. Where helpful, I can also work alongside other professionals, such as schools, foster and adoption services, or CAMHS, to provide joined-up support.

Sessions are offered in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment, using a range of creative approaches such as sandplay, art, and storytelling, depending on what each child feels most drawn to.
